5 questions with Meaghan B. Murphy

Meet Meaghan

My name is Meaghan B Murphy. I'm a longtime magazine editor who's held top jobs at places like SELF, Cosmo and Good Housekeeping. Currently I'm the editor in chief of Woman's Day magazine, reaching 7 million total audience. I'm also the author of Your Fully Charged Life, a regular guest expert on shows like TODAY and Live with Kelly & Mark and the host of a brand-new feel-good reality show called My Perfect Day coming Summer 2024 on Very Local.

What’s your favorite aspect of your day to day work?

I love that no two days look the same for me. Every day is truly a unique adventure.

What do media brands need to do now to see success in the future media landscape?

It's crucial to be open and agile. The face of media is changing quickly and dramatically. However, one thing will never change: The "customer" is always right. So, you have to really pay attention to their shifting needs and deliver.

What mistakes do you see brands making in their content strategy?

Brands fail when they don't stay true to their core DNA. You can't change the product or the mission to suit the audience. You need to find the RIGHT audience and meet them where they are.

What can content marketers learn from the world of magazines?

Content marketers can learn the art of the pivot from magazine folks. We are quickly evolving and changing the ways in which we deliver content based on audience reactions. It's all about the audience and meeting them where they are.

Tell us about your favorite current project.

My current favorite project is My Perfect Day. It's a feel-good reality show that treats deserving folks to their perfect day. I'm like a fairy godmother! It will air this Summer on Very Local, a streaming platform owned by Hearst TV. You can follow @verylocal on Instagram or go to verylocal.com to learn more.

Career wisdom from Meaghan:

My best career hack is to focus on the WHO of the work vs. the HOW or the WHY. When you put people and relationships at the forefront, everything else gets easy.
